Last week I mentioned the database management programme that I use to keep track of my internet interests.
Promobuddy was written by Detlev Reimer using the very successful proprietary software, FileMaker Pro. This programme was originally written for users of Apple Mac's and is very robust. However, Detlev’s Down-load page for Promobuddy has thrown into the limelight one aspect of internet marketing that can have serious consequences.
Security
There just too many rogues, liars and cheats on the internet. If you are intent on growing any sort of internet presence, you cannot afford to leave your computer and personal data open to theft.
I received a message from one of my readers, Arth, saying that, when he went to the PromoBuddy download page, his computer protection system alerted him to the possibility of a Trojan.
In the context of computer software, a Trojan horse is a programme that installs malicious software while under the guise of doing something else. Though not limited in their payload, Trojan horses are more notorious for installing backdoor programmes which allow unauthorised non permissible remote access to the victim's machine by unwanted parties - normally with malicious intentions.
So, it’s not something to be ignored.
As it turns out, the security software used by my reader was not able to distinguish between a Trojan and a harmless piece of Java script.
However, it serves to remind that if you do not have an up-to-date security programme loaded on your computer, you are at risk.
Those of you who write a blog may have noticed a new widget in the side-bar here entitled “BlogRush Widget". This is a relatively new widget that is designed to direct relevant and interested readers to a blog.
It is free to install and only takes a few minutes.
I have only had it installed for one week and it has brought 574 new readers to my blog.
If you haven't yet taken to "blogging", there is a page here called "How To Write Up Your Day and Make Some Money"
Enough said!
To HTML or Not to HTML?
I notice that several of the safe list houses will allow one to send out ads in HTML format. I’m not terribly "au fait" with HTML and so I have been sticking to text advertisements.
When I receive advertisements from other safe list originators I conclude that I am not the only one who is not too familiar with using HTML. Furthermore, I find that those emails I receive on my gmail account; where an image is included, do not load properly. As a consequence, I pass over these emails very quickly.
If you are sending the text advertisements from the Accelerator Plan, I suggest you stick with Text and ignore HTML versions.
Marketing Tips
Most respected marketers will tell you that there is value in adding a post-script (P.S.) to your letter. It is a well known fact that after reading to whom a letter is addressed, the recipient is likely to see who the letter is from, before reading the main body.
If there is a post-script, the recipient is likely to read that next. This presents an ideal opportunity to reinforce your opening message title and include again the link to your One Step 4 Income web site.
I have also seen just how many people don’t appear to track the responses to their offerings. I said last week, tracking your responses is a fundamental “must”. If you are not recording from where your customers come, how can you know what works?
Something else that I picked up this week from a discussion in the Forum . (By the way, The Forum at OSI is an excellent place to visit, meet your colleagues and pick up on their ideas.)
I got this one from Steve Brown who is an active forum member and who has an excellent web site, Downline Planet.
Can you improve the delivery of your emails?
As your list of OSI members grows you may experience the frustration of seeing your permission-based email messages being mistakenly blocked by anti-spam filters. In order to protect their clients from real junk, some Internet and Email Service Providers end up blocking legitimate mail in the process.
Lyris can help you combat these "false positives" by checking your message for red flags before you send it. They have incorporated SpamAssassin's™ rules into the web-based "Content Checker" on their site. Just complete the form and you'll get an instant a summary report on your mailing, as well as more detailed report by email. It identifies the problem parts of your message and makes recommendations for changes.
Although I’m now receiving something in excess of 2,500 emails per day to my gmail account, no one message header struck me as being particularly attractive this week. No I don’t read them all… but I usually scan down the first couple of pages. So I decided to use one of Ray’s standard emails
My Headline was “Keep Your Credit Card in Your Pocket” and variations on that. The body reads:
Are you struggling to make money online?
Are you spending more money than you're earning each month?
Are you new to the Internet and don't know how to get started in a home business of your own?
If you answered yes to any one of the questions listed above... I've got a simple solution.
There's an incredible step-by-step business feeder system that will take you by the hand and show you exactly how you can easily create wealth without interfering with you job or your lifestyle.
What's more... you can start for free and grow big...REALLY BIG in a few short weeks by using a portion of the profits that you earn... instead of money out of your own pocket!
You just have to check this out for yourself, seeing is believing. Click the link below to find out my experiences... and the exciting details of the One Step 4 Income system

Then mothball your Credit Cards.
This message scores 1.9998% on Lyris, i.e. it is highly deliverable.
Results
OSI: hits 205 = 0.41% over all conversion
However, by using TrackThatAd I can now easily see which Safe List produces the better response. The Credit Mailer option with many Safe Lists appears to get the best overall response. So this week I will be claiming credits by opening the emails from:
Dustys Magical Marketing 15 hits = 1.60% conversion
Tutorials4Newbies Safelist 15 Hits = 2.77% conversion
TrafficProList 14 Hits = 2.03% conversion
List Bandit: Hits 2 = 1.9%
WebBizInsider: Hits 14 = 3.65%
Again, my results from WebBizInsider are somewhat skewed as my list there continues to grow… another 5 new members this week... so no complaints here.
Overall.
Well, first I have to admit that I made a mistake on Day 1 last week… and as I wanted to have a complete record, I continued along that path for the whole week.
I will pay one month’s membership of NPN to the person who first correctly identifies that error, and posts such in the “comments” section of this blog.
Overall, though the results are very satisfying. My team continues to grow, there are now 12 of us.
We write to one another and are becoming quite a united bunch. I have a second person itching to follow me in at NPN – so I guess there’s no going back.
Another excellent post, Kevin, thank you so much.
I admit to being biased as I'm part of your team, but I find your posts so clear and they give me real encouragement and direction.
