In today's world, we have almost endless options for communication. Postal mail, email, and videoconferencing are just a few of our choices for keeping in contact with vendors and clients around the globe. Yet the sheer number of choices can lead to confusion. Many options are quite costly, so a balance must be found between function and price.

It is now possible to use a computer as a multi-purpose communications tool, Software applications are available that offer telephone service, faxing, videoconferencing, and internet. Alternatively, dedicated hardware can be used for each of these functions.

Whether or not to use your computer for various forms of communication depends largely on the power of your system. Communications tools are resource-heavy, requiring large amounts of free hard drive space, as well as taking over most of the computer's RAM when in use. Additionally, most programs become resident in your system tray, meaning that they use a portion of your resources even when not actively in use.  Powerful new computers can handle this easily, with no loss of usability. However, older or less powerful computers may show a decided decline in performance due to the utilization of virtual memory and hard drive space.

If your computer can handle it, software-based effective communication tools offer a number of significant advantages. One is office space. You will not need to dedicate desk space to separate components. Additionally, many programs, particularly those purchased as part of a package, work seamlessly together. Your computer can answer the phone, and then automatically direct the call to fax or voice as appropriate. You can set up a rather extensive voice mail network, instructing the caller to enter the appropriate code to leave voice mail for varying departments. This feature can actually add authenticity to your company, as even if you are a corporation of one, you will present the illusion of a busy office.

Genius... Absolute Genius!

Yesterday morning my friend Richard sent me an email with the subject heading "Genius... Absolute Genius".

Having read the content of his email and the material to which it refers, I have to say that I heartily agree.

When I was a little kid, we often used to play a game at birthday parties called "Pass the Parcel".

All the children would sit around in a big circle and pass around a paper wrapped parcel whilst music was playing.  When the music stopped, whoever was holding the parcel got to take a layer of paper off and received a token for a present.

Shrieks of delight would vibrate around the room as one child after another would get a lovely present.

Eventually the parcel was completely unwrapped and there would be one big present left.

And yesterday when I saw my friend's email, I was reminded of this party game... only with one tiny difference... all the goodies were for me.

NPN Down Line – Give to Get

During my first month with One Step 4 Income there has been a noticeable absence of contact from my immediate up-line at NPN, even though I joined NPN within a few days of joining OSI.  Personally, I find that a bit disappointing.

I acknowledge that there must be a lot of members in his down-line at OSI where my membership number is five thousand five hundred and something… his is one hundred and something. 

Perhaps he has so many paid members at NPN that one more such is of little interest.  However, to my way of thinking, relationship building with your down line is of significant importance.

You probably know that, when one of your down-line members at OSI wishes to join you at NPN, Ray now forwards that request to you.  This gives you an ideal opportunity to encourage that person to become a paid and active member at NPN.

Most people will simply send their NPN Referral Link and possibly an encouraging email to that individual. But if you look in your back office at NPN you will find there is another link that you could send to the applicant.  It is called the “Referral Distribution System” link.

Safelists Submitters

One Step 4 Income - Week 4

By tracking my results over the last 4 weeks I have concluded that the best email conversions come from those Safelists that provide a Credit Based Mailer.

I estimate I have sent out 200,000 emails to Safelists during 4 weeks.  I say estimate, because during the first 2 weeks I did not keep an accurate record.  My OSI site has received 1,030 hits… 951 came from Safelists where I used their Credit Based Mailer.

Ok… so 4 weeks is not a very big sample, but my conclusion is supported by the team at Traffic Hoopla.  Over a period of more than four years, having tested hundred of Safelists, their statistics show that at least 95% of Safelists are totally ineffective.  By that, they say this means they NEVER have a single response to their ads, EVER.

By the way, this is what Traffic Hoopla say about Traffic Blasters:

Some people will use submitters to email thousands of Safelists with the idea that if you send out enough ads, someone is bound to respond.

It sounds like a good idea, but what is the major drawback? The trouble with this concept is that enormous resources are needed to handle all the incoming mail. You'd receive thousands and thousands of email messages a day - mostly from worthless Safelists. Our testing has revealed that 95% of Safelists on submitters are also ineffective. "Ineffective" means that they NEVER have a response from their membership EVER.

Commencing week 5, I am concentrating on Safelists that provide a Credit Based Mailer.

Meanwhile, this week I have been opening a lot of emails so as to earn credits.  Boy oh boy is that a mixed bunch, or what?

Last week I mentioned the database management programme that I use to keep track of my internet interests. 

Promobuddy was written by Detlev Reimer using the very successful proprietary software, FileMaker Pro.  This programme was originally written for users of Apple Mac's and is very robust.  However, Detlev’s Down-load page for Promobuddy has thrown into the limelight one aspect of internet marketing that can have serious consequences.

So, it's Sunday and here I am fulfilling my promise to report my experiences with OSI.

Earlier in the week, whilst looking at all the Forum comments about other marketing programmes, I acknowledged that in this report I may contradict myself. 

Having spent my lunch time in the company of several hundred French, English, Dutch and sundry other countrymen celebrating the fête de cepes in a local village, together with several glasses of Bergerac rouge, I know I am.
